Case Study 3 : FORTIS BANK

Who is Fortis Bank?

Fortis Bank is part of Fortis, an international financial services provider active in the fields of insurance, banking and investment.
With a market capitalization of EUR 44.6 billion and around 70,000 employees, Fortis ranks among the fifteen largest financial institutions in Europe.  In its home market, the Benelux countries, Fortis occupies a leading position and offers a broad range of financial services to individuals, companies and the public sector. In Benelux, Fortis Bank is mainly the result of the merger of Générale de Banque with CGER who where two major players in the banking sector.

What is the challenge?

This merger forces infrastructure changes and will affect almost all of the employees at some stage of their working life. Fortis' main project states that in September 2001 all Belgian branches will have to work with the new standard I.T. environment. This translates into training more than 7000 students within the new environment to ensure each and every one of them is competent come D Day.

How was it successfully achieved?
To undertake this challenge, the training management of Fortis Bank has decided to use WizTIM. With the product, they could generate dedicated training environments that "mirror" the final production environment, which translates into hundreds of tutored simulations of their Branch Application. The WizTIM technology first permitted the creation of more than 120 simulations in order to train an initial target audience of 1300 people from September 2000 till February
2001. Theses training kits have been generated and delivered within two months!

A few figures taken from 2 projects:

PROJECT 1
PROJECT 2

Goal
: Train 1300 end users on a new strategic banking application.
Project duration: 2 months.
Volume of materials delivered: 65 tutored simulations in French and also 65 in dutch for a total of about 5 hours of lessons per language.
Results: The training department has delivered an impressive number of training kits without involving the I.T. department. All end users were successfully trained on time. The project is considered a success and opens the way for a bigger one.

Goal
: Train more than 7000 end users on the new banking system used throughout all branches across Belgium. Trainees are all Fortis Bank employees.
Project duration: 4 months.
Volume of materials delivered: 85 tutored simulations in French and 85 in dutch for a total of about 8 hours of lessons per language.
Evaluation: End users are evaluated through the whole training session. The training department can monitor the level and improvement of all trainees.
